If you have an Eaton CF3000 fire alarm system installed in your building, you may be advised that it needs upgrading after it was recently made officially obsolete.

Here is everything that you need to know so you can make an informed decision on how to proceed.

The Obsolete Eaton CF3000 System

The Eaton CF3000 has been a reliable and widely installed commercial fire panel range for many years. However, as technology advances and fire safety regulations evolve, manufacturers must innovate to ensure maximum protection.

Eaton has recently announced an important update: the CF3000 range is now officially obsolete.

Check Your Panel: Does it Say Menvier? Depending on when your fire alarm system was originally installed, your panel might not actually have “Eaton” written on the front. Because Eaton acquired Menvier (and Cooper Industries), these systems were frequently branded as Menvier CF3000 or Menvier DF6000 panels. If your equipment has the Menvier name on it, this obsolescence announcement applies directly to you.

To replace this outgoing range, Eaton has launched the next-generation XDetect platform.

This new system features a modern architecture offering improved performance, long-term product support, and ensures compliance with all current standards and best practices. Because of this leap forward in technology, the legacy CF3000 and Menvier systems are being phased out.

What Does This Mean?

If you have an Eaton or Menvier CF3000 fire alarm system, you will increasingly struggle to have repairs, spares, or additions made to the system as the manufacturer winds down support for this legacy range.

Your system can continue to be serviced with a maintenance visit every six months by a competent specialist, and you are not being non compliant just by having an operational CF3000 in your building.

If, however, your fire alarm system shows a fault or fails and needs a part replacing due to this malfunction, this may soon become impossible. You could be left with a system that is faulty and fails to provide fire detection in your building, thereby making your premises non-compliant with UK Fire Safety Law.

As the Responsible Person for your premises, it is your duty to ensure systems are “maintained in an efficient state, are in efficient working order and are in good repair”, as per Article 17 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

What Should I Do?

If your Eaton or Menvier CF3000 fire alarm system is in healthy, working order presently, you should start to budget for a system upgrade. Do not leave it at the bottom of your pile, as a fault could pre sent itself and then you will be forced to take immediate action.

The good news is that Eaton has provided a clear and designated upgrade path:

  • The XDetect Platform: This is the direct upgrade route, providing a smooth migration from your old CF3000 while offering vastly improved performance and diagnostics.
  • The XDetect Mini: For smaller sites, or premises undergoing a phased upgrade, Eaton has also launched the XDetect Mini. This is a compact 1–2 loop panel making it a highly cost-effective option for customers looking to modernise without the need for a full, large-scale system overhaul.

Do not wait until a fault arises on your system to carry out the upgrade. Upgrades can take a while from system design and planning to installation. Your building could be out of action or require costly waking watches in the interim, so there is a lot to consider!

Leaving faults on a system has non compliance implications with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 (HASAWA). Not rectifying a fault could be putting lives at risk within your building.

It sounds scary, but that’s because it can be…if you don’t do anything about it, that is!

But don’t worry, WFP Fire & Security are here to help. We can provide you with a consultation to find the best solution for you and your business, and we even offer leasing options so you’re not bitten by a large upfront cost but you’re still safe and legal.

To Summarise…

  • The Eaton CF3000 fire panel range is now officially obsolete.
  • Your panel may be branded under the Menvier name (such as the Menvier CF3000 or DF6000)—this is the exact same family of equipment and is equally affected.
  • The designated upgrade path is the new Eaton XDetect platform, or the cost effective XDetect Mini for smaller sites and phased roll-outs.
  • You can continue to have your six-monthly maintenance services on your legacy panel, but sourcing replacement parts in the event of a fault will become increasingly difficult.
  • If you have a fault at present that cannot be repaired, you will need to upgrade your system, as not doing so could leave your building without adequate detection, leaving your building unsafe and non compliant.
  • Even if your system is healthy at present, you should budget for an upgrade in the near future and have this carried out as soon as feasibly possible to guarantee continued reliability and support.
