Commercial Fire Risk Assessments
Get a professional fire risk assessment for real peace of mind that you’re keeping people safe and complying with the law.
Any commercial premises where five or more people are employed must have a fire risk assessment carried out and regularly reviewed by a “responsible” person. It’s the law.
If you’d rather put less pressure on yourself and concentrate on the things you’re best at, why not put the safety of your people and your premises in the experts’ hands?
With years of experience in fire safety, and up-to-date knowledge of what the law requires, WFP are best-placed to carry out your fire risk assessment and protect you and your people.

Why Bother With a Fire Risk Assessment?
Fire Risk Assessments are an essential part of your commercial property’s management, and are needed in the following scenarios (if your premises has 5 or more employees):
You’ve moved to new premises or the property has changed hands and therefore the responsibility of health and safety needs to be reflected (even if there have been no structural differences since the last assessment)
You've had a refurbishment or extension, and therefore need to analyse all fire safety aspects, including if the current fire detection is apt for your premises in its new state (remember, if you're doing it prior to or during the works, you'll need to review it afterwards)
You've had an increase in footfall and so need your fire safety re-evaluated to cater to the greater number of people in your premises, be it customers or staff
You've been deemed to have a particularly high-risk environment which needs regular evaluation (usually stipulated in your last report or by your insurers)
You've recently had a fire related incident and need an assessment to pinpoint your premises' deficiencies so you can take the appropriate actions to avoid another fire
You need a new fire alarm installed and your installers (i.e. us!) need to know the level of detection required to adequately design your system
What's The Process for Getting a Fire Risk Assessment?
We’re professional and proficient and we’ll leave no stone unturned when it comes to assessing the risks your business faces. We work with retail stores, restaurants, charities, offices, warehouses, schools and many other commercial premises. Whatever your sector, we’re here to help.
Check out the 4 steps we’ll undertake with you to not only get your Fire Risk Assessment done, but to help you act on any areas highlighted by the report, which is presented in a traffic-light-style to help you understand the crucial priorities through to the tick-boxes you’ve already got mastered:
1
The Brief: We’ll gather a brief of your building to price your assessment (this is done based on size). If we’re doing a fire alarm installation, we’ll ask you for floor plans to assist us with the design to follow the assessment.
2
The Assessment: Your assessment will then take place accompanied by you or the nominated Responsible Person to assist with site-related questions to help us collate an extensive report of your fire safety.
3
Aftercare: After the assessment, you’ll be sent a report which is important to keep safe, but also to have a good read of to highlight any actions needed. We’ll work with you to create an action plan to help with any remediation.
4
Stay On Top Of It: WFP recommend keeping up with Fire Risk Assessments each year (the review date is typically stated on the assessment report) for your due diligence, safety and compliance. We can help and remind you!

Fire Risk Assessments Explained:
A fire risk assessment is a statutory evaluation of your building’s hazards, the chances of fires occurring and the likely outcome of those fires. In other words, it’s seriously important.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 lays out all the rules and makes it clear that without a Fire Risk Assessment, you could face fines and even jail-time for non-compliance. But, worse, you’d be putting lives at risk.
So let’s check out your infrastructure and minimise the risk of loss and damage in case a fire does ever break out. Now, it’s perfectly legal for your designated “Responsible Person” to carry out your building’s Fire Risk Assessment. But, if they don’t know exactly what they’re looking for, they’ll be liable should the worst happen.
If you’d rather pass the burden to professional, reputable people with years of knowledge and experience and full insurance to boot, then you’ve found your team!
What’s more, without a fire risk assessment you’ve got no hope of making a successful insurance claim, should a fire ever break out. It really is the best way to have peace of mind that you’re doing what you can to keep people safe and comply with the law.

Remember to read and act on areas highlighted in your assessment, as should a fire-related incident happen and you're found to have known about a hazard via the report, but not acted upon it, you'll have a lot of questions to answer!
How to Stay Safe & Legally Compliant with a Fire Risk Assessment:
If you want to get on with the things you’re best at, safe in the knowledge that you’re looking after your people and your premises, you need to make the right preparations with your fire risk assessment.
Here are the most important things to consider and implement (in addition to having the right passive and active fire safety equipment on-site, and in proper working order):
Provide adequate fire safety training for your nominated staff members
Carry out all of the recommended works to keep your building safe and compliant
Always have an up-to-date fire risk assessment which is genuinely reflective of your building’s current state
Designate a “Responsible Person” on site who understands how to use your fire safety equipment (and who knows how your fire alarm system works)
Create an emergency fire evacuation plan (and any Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans, otherwise known as PEEPs), and carry out regular drills

What Will My Fire Risk Assessment Analyse?
A Fire Risk Assessment looks at fire hazards, people at risk, the procedures to reduce or remove risk, as well as your emergency plan and the training your people on site have in fire safety. Broken down this is:
Emergency routes, exits and signage
How you dispose of dangerous substances
The fire safety training undertaken by the people on your site
The adequacy of your fire alarm and its detection as required for your building
The knowledge and placement of firefighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers
Needs of vulnerable people and how they are catered to in the event of a fire, such as the blind, deaf, elderly or disabled
Breaches in fire safety, causing hazards or threats to safe evacuation or fire stopping, such as propping open fire doors
We can also incorporate Capacity Calculations/Safe Occupancy Figures to tell you the number of people that can safely occupy within your premises at any one time

Fire Risk Assessments are a visual assessment, not technical or invasive. If your report highlights that you need to look at certain aspects, such as audibility of your fire alarm (i.e. does it reach the required number of decibels it should?) then we can help with that, too. That's what our fella, a Fire Alarm Engineer, in the photo is looking at above.
Your professional report will summarise the extent of all the fire hazards within your premises and outline the preventative precautions you should put in place. We’ll pick up on any no-nos and point out the things you need to change to make your building safer and compliant. And we’ll help you implement them, too.
