How Does Fire Alarm Monitoring Work?

Bespoke Set-Up We’ll set up the monitoring response to suit your needs (which can be changed at any time) so that the Fire Brigade and/or nominated key holders are alerted in the event of an activation.

Get It In: Following our brief, any surveys and initial consultations with you, we’ll install a fire alarm monitoring device inside your new fire alarm panel (or your existing one if you’re moving to us for servicing).

Ongoing Servicing: We’ll check the integrity of your monitoring connection every time we come out to service your fire alarm (every six months), but are always on stand-by should you need us.

Get Alerted: If a fire does break out, you’ll have an immediate response set up. We’ll be notified so we can work with you and the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) to find out if it was a false alarm or not.

Fire Alarm Monitoring Explained:

It might sound complicated but the concept behind fire alarm monitoring is really very simple. We create a signal connection between your alarm and an alarm receiving centre. The alarm goes off? The centre knows about it.

High-risk businesses – like residential care homes for example – are legally required to have monitoring set up for an immediate fire brigade response. Makes an awful lot of sense when you think about it.

Things are a little hazier when it comes to lower-risk businesses though; that’s where the choice is really up to you. If you do opt for fire alarm monitoring, it’s up to you to decide whether your system should alert the fire service or an alternative key holder first.

Go for the latter and that person will receive a notification any time your system detects a problem, prompting them to get to site quickly (and potentially before the fire brigade arrives). 

The most popular brands in the monitoring market are CSL Dualcom, Emizon and Redcare (BT), but whatever you opt for, you’ll want it to be “dual path”. Dual path monitoring means that two channels are used to communicate a signal. It’s the only way to 100% guarantee that the system will alert the Fire Brigade and/or your designated key holder(s) instantly – and that’s exactly why we use it for all WFP monitoring.
